Boxing photography at the Millennium Stadium

Joe Calzaghe boxing Peter Manfredo at the Millennium Stadium Cardiff in Wales, 7th April 2007. Boxing photography can be very dramatic, if you are ring side there is a lot of sweat and aggression and it is very exciting to be so close to the action. But sometimes it was not possible to be ring side and that opened up other photographic possibilities such as the photograph above. This image was taken from half way up the stand.

​At the start of each round I noticed that the lights on the crowd were left on for about 10 seconds only. This was at the start of the 3rd round and I was fearful all through the second round that Joe Calzaghe would knock him out and there would be no 3rd round, thankfully that didn’t happen and I got this picture just as I planned.
